SHELTERED IN the arms of god
from Heritage - Volume II
I feel the touch of hands so kind and tender.
They're leading me in the paths that I must trod.
I'll have no fear for Jesus walks beside me
For I'm sheltered in the Arms of God.
They're leading me in the paths that I must trod.
I'll have no fear for Jesus walks beside me
For I'm sheltered in the Arms of God.
So let the storm clouds rage high,
The dark clouds rise,
They don't worry me;
For I'm sheltered in the arms of God.
He walks with me,
And naught of earth shall harm me,
For I'm sheltered in the arms of God.
Soon I shall hear the call from heaven's portals
Come home my child,
It's the last mile you must trod
I'll fall asleep
And wake in God's sweet heaven
For I'm sheltered in the arms of God.
So let the storm clouds rage high,
The dark clouds rise,
They don't worry me;
For I'm sheltered in the arms of God.
He walks with me,
And naught of earth shall harm me,
For I'm sheltered in the arms of God.

Psalms 61:3 For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy.

Just last night, we had another thunderstorm. The rain pounded on the roof making one wonder if it can withstand the challenge the weather is giving it. We've had many storms lately. We see the pictures on the news of homes and businesses flooded. We hear horror stories of people trying to survive hurricanes in Nicaragua. Storms can give us a lot of fear and worry.
Have you ever been caught in a storm? I've been caught in a storm on a golf course. That is one place you definitely do not want to be during a thunderstorm. You wonder, how to get to shelter that will protect, but the clubhouse seems to be miles away and the lightning seems to strike closer and closer.
Often, the storms we get caught in have nothing to do with the weather at all. Sometimes, the storm clouds form when we are getting a diagnosis from our doctor. Sometimes, the storm clouds form when we find our job is in the division that is being cut. Sometimes, the storm clouds form when we watch someone we love very much making very bad choices.
Dottie Rambo wrote this great lyric along with many, many others. Dottie herself has been caught in the storms of life. She suffered a ruptured disk which led to paralysis in her left leg. She underwent a series of surgeries to regain some mobility in her leg, but during this time, she learned her husband was having affairs with other women.. She suffered through a divorce when her husband left her to marry another. She struggled with finances and for a time was forced to rely on support from family and friends. On top of all this, her ministry secretary absconded with all of Dottie's personal and ministry finances and disappeared. But, God never let Dottie down and he will never let us down.

God never promised us there wouldn't be storms in our lives.
God did promise us that he would always be there with us.
Think of the lyric sung:
"So let the storm clouds rage high, the dark clouds rise.
They don't bother me. For I'm sheltered in the arms of God.
He walks with me, and naught of earth shall harm me..."
Where are you right now? Hopefully, life is just great and going very well. But, there are always times of life when we are in a storm. Despite the circumstances around us, we can know and trust that we are "sheltered in the arms of God."
Read these verses that speak of God as our protector and shelter:
2 Samuel 22:2-4
"The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn [a] of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior— from violent men you save me. I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies."
Psalm 9:9
The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
Psalm 18:1-3
I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
Psalm 27:1-6
The LORD is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid? When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident. One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD.
Psalm 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Psalm 125:2
As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore.
God did promise us that he would always be there with us.
